The Force Continues…

I meant to post last week, but the boyo caught a nasty nasty cold. We’re talking snotty nose, coughing fits, and middle of the night code Vs. And then I caught it just in time for New Years. Somehow my husband was lucky enough to escape it.

Even though my son and I are both feeling much much better, I didn’t think I was going to be able to post today either. He had a late night last night, and slept in this morning, so I was sure that nap time was going to be a no go. Low and behold, he finally zonked out (I suspect playing peekaboo in the kitchen cabinets helped). Since my chores are all done, I have some free time to blog and catch up on Blindspot (Hellloooo Sullivan Stapleton!)

Three weeks ago I shared a snippet from an old Star Wars fanfic of mine for my WIPpet Wednesday post. It ended on a bit of a cliff hanger – even for me! – because I never finished writing the fanfic after that snippet.  A few people wanted to know what happened next, so I decided to give it a shot just to see. I won’t deny that it kinda made my brain hurt a little; it’s been so long since I’ve read a Star Wars X-Wing novel, and it’s been even longer since I’ve messed around with this story. I hope I’m getting the characters right. I know I’m definitely getting the timeline wrong, but then the timeline for the fanfic was always wonky.

When we last checked in with Anagha Amarande and Derek Hobbie Klivian, they were stuck in a shelter in the middle of a snowstorm. Anagha had just survived an x-wing crash, and Hobbie was mending her wounds. He was also taking advantage of the situation to ask her some questions since it had been several years since they had last seen each other.

“What happened, Anagha?”

“When? Up there? Or when I left?” Her question earned her another look and she licked her lips nervously. “Well…”

We’re picking right up from there. Since today is January 6th, here are 6 paragraphs from the Fanfic.

“I saw you.” When his irritated expression turned to one of confusion, Amarande continued. “With Wes, at the bar we all used to go to. I know it was supposed to be just a guys night out, no girls allowed, but I had just finished my meeting with Wedge. He had told me that I was being considered for that new squadron, and I wanted to discuss it with you. Anywho, I saw you and Wes, and those two floozies and…” She shrugged, wincing when the movement aggravated her injuries.

“Anagha, I was his wingman. It was just some harmless flirting so he could seal the deal with her friend.”

“It didn’t look like harmless flirting.” Granted, it had been over a decade since the incident, but she still vividly remembered seeing him with his tongue halfway down the Twi’lek’s throat. However, maybe over the years of being Wes’s wingman, all the girls had started to blur together and he had forgotten which one she was talking about. There was no point in going down that wormhole though. “Whatever. What’s done is done.”

“Fine.” He sighed.

It was clear he wanted to say more, but before he could Anagha decided to change the subject. “How much longer till rescue comes again?”

“Tomorrow at the earliest.” Another gust of wind shook the walls of their shelter. The poles creaked under the assault, and in the corner, both of their astromech droids crooned worriedly. “Why are you so set on saving this backwater planet? It seems to me that it could use a little Yuuzhan Vong terraforming.”

“It’s home.”

LOL, that definitely doesn’t sound like “harmless flirting.” He needs something to jog his memory, and then he’d better find a really, really good way to make it up to her!

Please keep going! I’m relatively Star Wars ignorant (because no Vulcans!), but I’m enjoying your story. And no way is that harmless flirting!

Hope everyone is fit as a fiddle at your place when you read this! =)
