Ugh…

Our modem keeps rebooting itself this morning. I’ve tried unplugging it from every thing, sending a ping from the cable app on my phone – everything. Finally I admitted defeat and called the cable company, only to have the customer service rep inform me that our modem is possessed.

Well, actually she had no clue why it was rebooting itself either, but you could totally tell she thought it was time to break out the holy water. And maybe take a hammer to the thing.

So this post is coming to you from my phone, and our spotty 3G connection out here in the hills since I won’t be able to get a demon free router from the cable store until later this afternoon.
That’s if I even survive that long. Boyo loves his Sarah and Duck, and he won’t be happy when he wakes up and I can’t turn it or his other shows on. Plus he was up from 330 to 7 am this morning, so I’m already running on a short fuse from that nonsense.

And there is no coffee in the house.

We’re screwed here, people. Royally screwed.

So I’m going to keep this WIPpet Wednesday post short.

Since Today is the 10th of August, here are 18 paragraphs (8+10=18) from that Star Wars Fanfic I dabble with from time to time (Why can’t I quit you fanfic? Why? (Also, mad props to autocorrect for recognizing I meant fanfic when I typed in fabfuc) ) this takes place prior to everything else I’ve shared. Anagha and Hobbie are just squadron mates – nothing more – at this time.

Uphead was the cockpit for the ship. Through the transparasteel she should could see the flickering blue and white streaks that made up hyperspace. The flashing light washed over the shadow of a man sitting in the pilot seat, tinting his pale blonde hair. “Hobbie?”

He turned to face her, “You’re awake.”

“Yeah.”

His warm brown eyes scanned her from head to toe. “You look like you should still be in bed though. C’mon, I’ll walk you back.”

“No. I’m fine.”

“Sure you are.” He stood and squeezed between the two seats in the cockpit, clearly intent on escorting her back to her room.

She stepped away. “I can’t go back there. It’s too… and well Wes and Amania are…”

He raised his eyebrows and then an expression of understanding crossed his face. “Gotcha.” He sank back down into the pilot’s spot and patted the open seat across from him. “Sit.”

“Thanks.” She slid through the gap and settled down with her blanket still wrapped around her.

“How are you feeling?”

“Like I’ve been pounded to a pulp.”

“Well, that was a pretty big boo you set off.”

“Yeah, it was.” It was a good thing Firrerreos where so tough, or else she’d be dead. She studied her arms and the bandages covering them. “I wanted to thank you.”

He turned back to her, his eyebrows drawn together in confusion. “For what?”

She licked her lips. “For coming after me.”

“We don’t abandon our own.”

That made her far happier than she had expected. It was one thing to be a part of the squadron on paper, and quite another thing to be fully accepted. To finally belong to something bigger than herself. She leaned forward and pressed a kiss against his cheek. “Thank you.”

He smelled a little of grease and ash. Clearly he hadn’t visited the refresher since their escape, but then neither had she. She found that the combination was surprisingly pleasant though. His eyes met hers. However, rather than take advantage of her closeness like she expected him to, he quickly glanced away again. She saw his adam’s apple bob as he swallowed. “Go back to bed. You need your rest.”

I really enjoy the bits of this fanfic you post. I totally understand not being able to quit writing in your fandom! I hadn’t for ages but then went back in the spring because I had an unfinished one, and…well, I’m sure you understand.

I like the interactions between these two here. It’s a nice moment.

I will NOT quit my fanfic. It brings me joy. It’s my sandbox….

It’s the only way from keeping the greedy human-loving Vulcan in my head from waking me up from a sound sleep and making me cry because she’s too stubborn and logical to do that herself…

I’m not really up on my Star Wars, but I like the feel of these snippets you’ve shared.

And I hope there is coffee and cable by the time you read this. No coffee is a fate worse than dismemberment!

I’m not a coffee drinker, but… if there was no tea in the house…

Suffice it to say, “I understand.”

And… never give up your fanfics. Fanfiction is a joy we must all allow ourselves when it calls. (Just my personal opinion).

So I don’t really know much about Star Wars at all (my fandom is Doctor Who), but I still really enjoyed this scene. The awkwardness and the tension were really well done, especially in that last paragraph.
