Shadow Man…

I’ve made more progress this week on The Undying Ones. I’m not back at 50,000 yet, but I’ve FINALLY reached the point of the story where the real fun begins. Not to say that the book isn’t fun from the get go – it is – but the next couple of chapters are ones that I’ve been looking forward to for a long long time.

In addition to that I’ve also been tinkering with an idea for the cover – even though it’ll be a long time before I actually need a cover. It’s been a lot of fun though, relearning skills I haven’t used in awhile, and teaching myself some new ones that my college professors never touched on. I’m really happy with how it’s turned out so far, and I can’t wait to share it with you in a few months once everything is finished.

wippet-wednesday

WIPpet Wednesday is a blog hop run by Emily Witt, where authors share a snippet of whatever project that they might be working on. The only rule is that the snippet must relate to the date somehow and sometimes the math can get pretty interesting.

Since today’s date is March 22nd, I’ll be sharing 25 sentances (3+22=25) from The Undying Ones.

The Undying Ones

Last week, Mattie encountered an unusual door. This week, she meets the person behind the doors unusual upkeep.

“Are you sure that this is a wise idea?” A strange but oddly familiar voice asked from within one of the long abandoned cells. A figure stepped forward out of the darkness he had been lurking in, startling Mattie with his sudden appearance. He was dressed entirely in black, with a dark rag wrapped around the bottom half of his face. His cowl had been pulled up what the rag didn’t, but his sharp blue eyes stood out despite the shadows. “If you go back there this quickly, it’ll only raise suspicions.”

“I’d rather deal with them out there than the idiots behind us.” Talesin muttered. “Have you heard the latest news?”

Rordan scoffed. “Does he look like he’s been outside this room since the last time we saw him?”

The shadow man ignored them. “What use have I for anything that happens above?”

“The king has left his tower, and the toymaker made another.” Talesin told him anyways.

Despite the man’s claims that he didn’t care, he stiffened at the news. “That’s not possible. The Crone…”

“They found a way to do it without her.”

“They’re mad.”

Mattie found herself stepping behind Rordan and Talesin as they spoke. Between the stranger’s eyes and his voice, she felt as if the world around her was spinning. Tilting. She felt as if she had met him before, but for the life of her she couldn’t remember when or where, and the fact that she couldn’t remember left her aching in a way none of her other missed memories did. Those just left her feeling as if she were going mad. This made her feel as if she were overlooking something terribly important, and that her life would never be the same if she couldn’t recall it.
